The Center for Innovations in Open Governance (CIOG) is an education and research social venture. The enterprise is a non-profit making entity that believes in transformation of citizens’ lives through effective management of public finances. It was established in Kenya in 2017 to provide a platform for strategic partnerships and capacity development of stakeholders in the public finance sector.
Budget advocacy and approaches
The CIOG acknowledges and recognizes the good progress being made in the management of public finances in Kenya under the new constitutional order and the need to strengthen its implementation. This informs the choice of our proactive and evidence-based approach to budget work. It is the Center for Innovations’ intention to invigorate the statutory provisions and processes by innovating on existing governance processes and systems as well as generating new ideas through research, experimentation and training. This exploration is aimed at facilitating learning and scaling of innovative practices of good governance at the local government level.
Research and Innovation
Research, experiment and training, is at the heart of the Center’s theory of change. CIOG’s advocacy relies heavily on evidence and practice, from its research and analysis of budgets, objective assessment of governance systems as well as information collected from its constituents. The training component is geared towards strengthening demand and supply of public services as well as improve uptake and use of our research information.
